Dorothy’s interest in the arts comes quite naturally. Born and raised in New York, she was exposed to the culture of the city. Her Grandmother was a watercolorist, her mother was an art collector and classical pianist, and her father a Wimbledon champion and sports celebrity. In later years she studied art formally, both in college and under private apprenticeship.

Dorothy’s focus in oils dates to the 1980's. Central to her work is the use of color and symbolism. “Art is a tool for personal growth, expression and self-discovery.”

While residing in San Diego for 20 years, Dorothy was the V.P. of the San Diego Chapter of the National Women’s Caucus for Art, member of the Southern California Chapter and member of the San Diego Art Institute. Additionally, she was a scenic artist for the San Diequito Playhouse and produced and facilitated experiential workshops in art and spirituality. Dorothy exhibited her work, in numerous group, juried, and solo exhibitions on the West Coast, and continues to do so.

Dorothy relocated, and established her new art studio on the Central Coast of California. She became a member and board member at large of ARTernatives, a Visual Arts Forum and a member of Art Lives Here. She also became the Artist in Residence with Project Renaissance, a conflict resolution program for local teens at risk.

Currently, Dorothy is a member of the San Luis Obispo Art Center, OPAG, the San Luis Obispo County Arts Council, The Morro Bay Art Association, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, N.O.W., and the American Art Therapy Association.

Dorothy released her educational “Garden of SHEden,” an interactive CD-R, for art lovers. She is published in the “International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women,” (2000 / 7th edition). She participates in the Annual Open Studio Tour of San Luis Obispo County.

When Dorothy isn’t creating or teaching in her studio, she enjoys the company of her dog Lilly, and a variety of activities: dancing, travel, camping, and nature walks. Other interests include psychology, performing arts, and being a women’s rights activist. She is a true bookworm and a passionate diarist, poet, and journal writer.

Dorothy’s oil paintings and Iris Giclée prints, in limited editions, can be seen here at her web site and purchased through her studio in San Luis Obispo, California.
